Covering the horticulture industry of WA and the need for bee pollination, this incursion will cover why our fruit and vegetable are important to our state.
The activities included in this incursion will cover the process of fruit and vegetables.
This incursion highlights:
- WA grows a variety of fruit and vegetables.
- There are a range of horticultural areas in WA.
- There are many aspects to think about when running a fruit/veg farm, including pests, diseases and soil health.
- The industry is becoming more high-tech with automatic harvesters and predicative analytics for soil and water management.
Apiary is a key WA industry that supports much of the horticultural production. Beekeepers often have to move their hives around to farms which need their bees pollination, fulfilling “contracts”.
Of course, beekeepers also produce honey and wax, which can fetch a high price depending on what type of vegetation they harvest. For example WA produces Jarrah honey, which is thanks to our Jarrah trees in the south west.
